The Norfolk Naval Shipyard is the largest of its kind in the world, and has built and repaired US Naval ships for as long as it’s been open. Using asbestos as an insulator as was the practice in the construction of most boats throughout the twentieth century the workers at the yard were exposed to elevated risks of the asbestos cancer mesothelioma.
